In 3 min read. More on Medium.
Sometimes, you want more than words to tell your tale. We want to give you a seamless canvas to focus on the important stuff (your story) and convey your thoughts as clearly as possible. We’re excited to announce powerful new tools aimed at making storytelling easier and even more beautiful than before.
When improving storytelling tools, our guiding principle is to preserve your intent and to maintain a story’s look and feel whenever possible, no matter on which platform the story is viewed.
Image grids (like the one below) can now be viewed on your iOS and Android apps as…
This was originally written on Hatch — the internal version of Medium for Medium employees. For the last few weeks, we’ve been using mentions on Hatch and we’re loving it. (See Hatching Inside Medium for more context.)
I’ve always wanted to let people know that I’ve mentioned them in my Medium stories.
Mentioning people could draw them into the conversation, like how joanna coles recounts conversations with Peggy Northrop and Kirsten Gillibrand in her story about being a working mother. And did you see Chris Stout-Hazard’s hilarious ranking of the presidential candidates’ logos? What if Marco Rubio, Hillary Clinton, Jeb…

A little over a month ago we launched the beta of the Medium API, and today we’re excited to announce that we’re opening access to everyone! This means any developer can now create an OAuth2 application and allow users to authenticate through Medium.
Applications can be viewed and created through the Medium Applications page, which you can get to through your Settings. We require a name, description, and at least one callback URL to get started, though we also encourage you to add an image. …
If you visited your profile recently, you might have noticed that it’s been given a significant facelift.
Of all the improvement suggestions we receive at Medium from our readers and writers, profile organization has been the most frequently requested update.
The new profile navigation bar was born directly from your feedback. You wanted to be able to showcase your stories, front and center, without having responses to others on the platform bog down the beauty of your published pieces.
We get it. The new navigation bar now shows only your originally published stories in the Profile section, along with longer…
A few weeks ago, we announced a new home experience for the mobile apps — a browsable, curated home to showcase the breadth and best of Medium. Today we’re excited to bring collections to the web and add some serendipity to the reading experience.
Collections are lists of topical or theme-based stories from Medium and around the web. The new homepage is powered by collections — you’ll be able to find new ones on medium.com and in our apps every day. Right now, they are curated by Medium and a handful of trusted testers.
This is our first step in…
This week, we’re excited to roll out three new features requested by Medium users to enhance the writing and publishing experience.
With our new schedule to publish feature, you can specify a date and time in the future for your stories to be published.
Clicking on “schedule to publish” from this screen will enable you to queue up stories to be published when you want instead of when you have the time.

The austerity serves an important purpose — writers can focus on sharing ideas, thoughts, and stories rather than fighting with the UI. Depth and delight? We want writing to be fun, and everyone’s posts to have beautiful, world-class typography and layout.
