Hello world. Hola mundo. 你好世界.

You love the stories you read on Medium. And you speak a language besides English. You’re just the person we need.

We are excited to announce our new translator program, where you can help spread your favorite Medium stories around the planet. And if things go well, the universe.

How to translate a Medium story:

  1. Send an email to HelloWorld@Medium.com and tell us the language into which you would like to translate, along with your Medium username. This is a voluntary program.
  2. We will add you to our approved translator list.
  3. Go to the story you would like to translate. You will now see a “Translate” button in the top right corner.
  4. Select your language from the drop-down menu. If you don’t see your language listed, let us know and we will add it.
  5. A workable draft of the original post will be automatically created. We will run the original English through Google Translate to get you started. Edit the translated text as needed, using the highlighted original English as reference. You can also share the draft with translation collaborators, and they can leave you notes.
  6. When you are done, email us the URL of your translated story. We will review and approve it.
  7. When readers come to Medium with that language set on their browser, a notification will pop-up on the original story with a link to your translation. Additionally, your translation will appear on your profile page.

This is a brand-new experiment for us, and we will be streamlining the process as we work out the bugs and flow of the process. Let us know what you think.

Boom. Let’s do this. Let’s open Medium up to the whole world, one story at a time.
