Medium Responses

What are responses?

At the bottom of every Medium story, there’s a text field where you can respond to the story you just read:

When you find a story on Medium that inspires, enrages, or otherwise engages you, and you want to respond, just start typing.

After you publish your response, it becomes its own stand-alone story on Medium. It is available on your profile page, and distributed out to your Medium followers. It also includes a link back to the original story to which you are responding.

What responses do I see?

• If the author of the original story writes a response to their own story
• If the author of the original story recommends a response by another author
• If you are logged in to your Medium account and someone you follow recommends a response

Can I hide responses to my story?

If you don’t recommend the response, it will not be visible to anyone who reads your story. If you are having any problems with responses to your story, drop us a line at yourfriends@medium.com.
