We’re excited to introduce the new, improved official Medium blog, which has been a long time coming. 3 Min Read is the publication to follow for all things Medium: news, product updates, tips and tricks. In short, it is the source of truth for all things Medium.

Turning The Story into 3 Min Read is about a lot more than a new name. To understand how we got here, let’s take a trip down memory lane.

Medium began as a storytelling platform. When naming our first official blog, we used the idea of storytelling as our guide: The Story felt like a natural name for a publication that housed updates about a storytelling platform.

Medium is still a storytelling platform today, but we’re also so much more than that. Medium is a space for you to speak your mind — news, personal essays, poetry, business case studies, photo journals — and a place to move conversation forward.

We wanted to represent the expanded breadth and depth of what is published on Medium with our new and improved official blog as well as have the name complement something about Medium that is core to the platform.

3 Min Read was the natural winner. Reading times are displayed on every story, and the time people spend with stories is integral to the Medium experience.

Why three as our magic number? We wanted to convey the kinds of stories we’re going to share on the blog. Our stories will make your Medium experience better without taking a ton of time or effort to benefit. (They won’t all be three minutes long! That would be a rigorous writing constraint, even for us.)

3 Min Read now also has categories to help you better navigate the stories we publish and find the information you want and need as quickly and easily as possible.

We hope you enjoy the new mission and design of the Medium blog and the stories that we’ll continue to share with you.
